Kindness Club members say thank you to teacher, veteran

Students surround US Army veteran and teacher Fred Miles

Earlier this month, members of the Goshen High School Kindness Club surprised social studies teacher and U.S. Army veteran Fred Miles with a personalized sweatshirt to thank him for his service. The sweatshirt is one of the new items available through their Wounded Warrior Project fundraiser, with orders open until Nov. 30.

The GHS Kindness Club, and its student-run Kindness Cart, was established in the winter of 2023. Students built and painted the cart themselves and take full ownership of its weekly operations. They regularly shop for items to stock the cart, take weekly inventory, create shopping lists, and work within a set budget. When the cart is open, students rotate roles, practicing customer service skills such as speaking and listening, stocking merchandise, and using the register to improve their money-exchange skills.

Kindness Club members also design and sell Goshen Gear through the Kindness Cart. What began with simple blue and red T-shirts has expanded to long-sleeve shirts, hoodies, and tote bags. Students cut and weed vinyl and press each design using a heat press — all inside the classroom. They also manage inventory, place supply orders, and ensure the store runs smoothly from start to finish.

Order your Goshen Gear here. 100% of the profits go back into the store, allowing the Kindness Club to donate to local causes and continue spreading kindness throughout the school district. The Kindness Club is overseen by Goshen High School Teacher Charles Doyle.
