Goshen’s Odyssey of the Mind teams continued to shine at the World Finals!
Representing Goshen High School, Team Seligman placed 1st in Problem 3! The team defeated 46 teams from around the world, including teams from Poland, China, India, Switzerland, South Korea, and Hong Kong. Coach Heidi Seligman, along with some members of this team, have won Worlds four times! Congratulations to Coach Seligman and the entire team.

C. J. Middle School’s Team Schmidt placed in fourth at the Word Finals. In the team’s first time going to Worlds, Team Schmidt defeated 58 U.S. and international teams. Congratulations, Team Schmidt on your hard work and perseverance!

Both teams competed in Problem 3 Classics, but in different divisions. Their problem, titled “Classic cooking,” takes on a new meaning as teams create a performance about an original chef character that is inspired by fictional literary characters and events. Teams chose from selected classic literature and create a gourmet meal based on their chosen book. The performance will include a setting from the book that inspired the meal, a team-created cooking gadget, and a dinner party featuring the meal that includes a character from the book.
The Seligman team chose Alice in Wonderland and the Schmidt team chose The Time Machine. Both teams cooked up amazing meals and beautiful sets to create spectacular 8 minute performances that had happy endings, both in the skits and in real life!

In addition, Carly Seligman received a World Finals “OMer” award for her great team contributions and for overcoming stage fright. In the course of seven years, Carly gradually progressed from instrumental participation to the lead role of Alice.
