
Several Advanced Art students at C. J. Hooker Middle School are being recognized for their exemplary work in this year’s Regional Scholastic Arts Awards. Students won 14 Gold Key Awards, 11 Silver Key Awards and 21 honorable mention awards.
The winning artwork was selected based on excellence in originality, technical skill, and the emergence of a personal voice or vision. On average, more than 800 works of art are submitted by students from this region alone; only 2% of the total submitted artwork is awarded, and less than 1% receive Gold Key Awards.
This year, seven students will have their artwork compete at the National Level, with 14 total works advancing as Gold Key Winners. They are:

“As a teacher, I am very proud and honored to have such dedicated and gifted students in our classes,” said Art Teacher Amber Brown. “It is a great achievement on their behalf and I hope this encourages our students to continue developing their artistic skills and achieve similar results in the future.”
Gold and Silver Key Award Winners will be honored on February 6 at the Scholastic Awards Ceremony at the Studley theater at SUNY New Paltz, where the students’ winning art will be exhibited. Public viewing hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday and 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday until March 1 in the Fine Arts Building Rotunda.
