Varsity Cheerleading off to a winning season

The Goshen Varsity Cheerleading team has had an impressive start to the season, with 12 athletes competing in Section IX’s biggest division this year.

On January 11, the team faced six competitors and earned a first-place finish at the Rally at the Valley invitational held at Minisink Valley. Victories came against Cornwall, Valley Central, Pine Bush, Vestal, Highland, and Pine Bush. The team followed up that success on January 24 at Highland, once again competing in the largest Coed division of the event against five teams. The athletes earned another first-place finish, defeating FDR, O’Neill, Tri-Valley, and Highland. In addition, the team achieved the highest score of the entire competition, earning the Grand Champion title.

On February 1, the team competed at Warwick after a challenging week marked by illness and limited practice time. Despite these obstacles, the athletes pushed through and placed second out of five teams, finishing just behind Valley Central.

Looking ahead, the team will compete February 7 at Monroe-Woodbury in what is expected to be the largest Coed division competition to date. The division will feature 10 highly competitive teams from both Section 9 and Section 1.
