Morning with the Goshen Greats at GHS

On April 29, Goshen High School honored students who demonstrate not only academic achievement but also leadership both inside and outside the classroom. Teachers selected each student in recognition of these accomplishments.

Many students are involved in multiple activities across the school, demonstrating strong determination and consistency.

GHS honors Raquet, Paige Goshen Great

In recognizing Paige Raquet as a 2026 Goshen Great, Ms. Longo said:

She has been selected for All-County, All-Area, and All-State ensembles, and also auditioned into an upper-level chorus. Paige is incredibly involved—she’s joined the drama club, performed in multiple ensembles and musicals, and is a founding member of a rock band. If something interests her, she jumps right in. She’s also a leader in our department and serves as my secretary for the past three years. This year, she helped carry on a Goshen tradition by organizing a 17-piece ensemble and coordinating everyone’s schedules. Pagie also was the first to volunteer for tap dancing and recruited multiple students for the past three years.

Goshen Great

Speaking about Avery Farrell, as a 2026 Goshen Great, Ms. Davin explained:

What I recognize about Avery is that he is a thoughtful and engaged member of the school community. In our history class, he leads meaningful conversations, often tackling topics that other students may find uncomfortable, and encourages his peers to consider different perspectives. He is eager to learn, actively participates, and excels academically while continuing to push himself. He is also one of Goshen’s standout baseball players. Avery is someone both I and his classmates can always count on and he is truly an asset to the classroom.

Goshen Great

As a new teacher at GHS, Ms. Gleeson spoke about Isabella Thaxton:

“I have only been at GHS for about two months, but it did not take long for Isabella to catch my attention. She shows up every day ready to learn and is extremely diligent in the classroom. She is willing to volunteer to read Shakespeare and approaches every task with confidence. She is fearless, kind, and caring, and I have witnessed her helping other students outside of the classroom. Her demeanor is always ‘can do.’ It is always great to see her in the hallway. As a new teacher, walking the halls with 100 students can feel daunting, but Isabella made me feel so welcomed. I nominated her not only for her academic performance, but for her character, demeanor, and everything she brings to our school community.”

Goshen Great

In recognizing Martin Nicolas, Ms. Paulus said:

Nicholas has earned three marking periods with a 99 percent average, including eight out of twelve exams with perfect scores. However, he is more than just these numbers. He does not simply try to memorize information; he makes a point to truly understand what he is learning. Nick asks questions and shares his knowledge with his peers. My honors students’ homework grades have improved because of Nick. I am so proud to give him this award.

Goshen Great

Students Anna Lisa and Madison Taylor nominate Mr. Hoey as a hardworking coach and dedicated social studies teacher. He consistently supports students in their academic growth and is committed to helping them succeed in their coursework. He goes above and beyond to guide and encourage students in their academic careers, and his work ethic and dedication make him a valued member of the school community. Mr. Hoey was presented with the Goshen Great Belt.

Some of the honored Goshen Greats were unable to attend the breakfast. GCSD is proud of all their hard work and contributions. Below is a list of all students selected as Goshen Greats for the 2025–26 school year.
