#FacultyFriday: Michael Tangney

This week’s spotlight is on Michael Tangney, a Goshen Intermediate School Physical Education Teacher who has been with the district for 12 years.

Tangney earned his Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education from SUNY Brockport and his graduate degree in Education from Long Island University before joining the Goshen Central School District in 2012. He has taught in both GIS and Goshen High School during that time.

The physical education teacher said he wanted to work in the district because of the atmosphere.

“Goshen has a very small-town Americana type of feel to it,” he said. “Once I started working here, I knew this was also where I wanted to live.

“The schools are not too big or too small, and give students plenty of the care and support they need. There are tons of activities to get involved in as well,” said Tangney.

When it comes to goals, Tangney said he wants to continue building on the curriculum at GIS.

“Every year we add units on and plan to continue,” he said. “We offer students a wide variety of activities here that are a bit ‘outside of the box.’ While we do all the standard P.E. activities, we also do things like Yoga, Tai Chi and some meditation.”

Outside work, Tangney enjoys playing guitar, writing music, and spending time with his family.

Thank you so much for all you do, Michael Tangney! We appreciate you!
