This week’s spotlight is on AIS English Teacher Amanda Ortiz, a new staff member who joined the Goshen Central School District last year.

Before joining GCSD this past September, Ortiz worked as an at-home tutor and SAT Prep Instructor for Tuxedo Union Free School District. She also served as Recreation Coordinator for Goshen Parks and Recreation. The AIS English teacher earned her bachelor’s degree from Dominican College and will begin her graduate studies at the New York Institute of Technology this spring.

Ortiz said coming to Goshen was an easy decision.

“I grew up in Goshen and I truly love it here,” she said. “I love the community and working with the people in it.”

As a longtime local resident, she said her goals are to use her work to better the community.

“I want to help my students grow into their best selves, and to be global citizens.”

For her first school year working in the district, Ortiz said she is most excited about bonding with her students and watching them succeed.

Outside of work, she enjoys hiking, hanging out with her puppies, kayaking and reading.

BONUS FACT: “My favorite food has got to be anything my mom makes,” Ortiz said. “She’s the best.”

Thank you for all you do, Amanda Ortiz! We appreciate you!
