Pesticide Application Notification
The Goshen Central School District is required to notify you when pesticide products may be used in school buildings throughout the year. Parents, guardians and staff may request a 48-hour advance written notification of certain pesticide applications, including the date and place the pesticide will be used, the name of the pesticide and its Environmental Protection Agency registration number, and who to contact
for more information.
If you want to be placed on the list, you may obtain a written request form in the main office of any school building or at the District Office: 227 Main Street, Goshen. You may request a form by mail by writing to the:

Asbestos inspection
In accordance with U.S. Department of Environmental Protection regulations, the district inspects all buildings that contain asbestos every three years and includes the results of those inspections in the asbestos management plan. The district is in compliance with the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA).
The asbestos in the district is monitored and inspected every six months to determine its condition and any need for repair or removal. The district uses only certified and licensed individuals for activities such as inspecting, repairing, handling and removing asbestos-containing materials.
Individuals interested in viewing the inspection reports may do so at any of our buildings’ main offices or the Buildings and Grounds Department.
2025-26 AHERA Notification and Report
Dear Parent, Guardian, and School Staff:
The Asbestos Hazardous Emergency Response Act (AHERA) requires public and private non-profit primary and secondary schools to inspect their buildings for asbestos-containing building materials. This Act went into effect in 1986, and requires schools to:
- Perform and original inspection and periodic re-inspections every 3 years for asbestos containing material; the next required triennial inspection will be completed in 2028.
- Develop, maintain, and update an asbestos management plan and keep a copy at the school; these plans are available for review during the school day.
- Provide yearly notification to parent, teacher, and employee organizations regarding the availability of the school’s asbestos management plan and any asbestos abatement actions taken or planned in the school.
- Designate a contact person to ensure the responsibilities of the local education agency are properly implemented.
- Perform periodic surveillance of known or suspected asbestos containing building material.
- Provide custodial and maintenance staff with yearly asbestos awareness training.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requires a pro-active, in-place management program whenever Asbestos Containing Building Material is discovered and is not removed.
- Asbestos that has been identified will pose little risk if it is well maintained under an operations and maintenance program.
- Removal is often not a building owner’s best course of action to reduce asbestos exposure. In fact, an improper removal can create a dangerous situation where none previously existed.
- The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) only requires asbestos removal to prevent significant public exposure to airborne asbestos fibers during building demolition or renovation activities.
Post Notification:
- During the 2025-26 school year, Abatement was conducted at Administration Building, 227 Main St, on the first, second and third floor above the drop ceilings in the original part of the buildings under contract with an Abatement Contractor and Project Monitor in Compliance with Code Rule 56, NYSDOH and NYSDOL.
- During the 2025-26 school year, Abatement was conducted at CJ Hooker Middle School, Kitchen floor, located in the original part of the building under contract with an Abatement Contractor and Project Monitor in Compliance with Code Rule 56, NYSDOH and NYSDOL,
- During the 2023-24 school year, Abatement was conducted at CJ Hooker Middle School, Classrooms 146, 147 and 148 on the first floor of the original part of the building under contract with an Abatement Contractor and Project Monitor in Compliance with Code Rule 56, NYSDOH and NYSDOL.
- During the 2023-24 school year there have been no instances where Asbestos was an imminent hazard to the health or well-being of our students or employees.
