On June 25, the Goshen Central School District Board of Education voted to appoint Thomas M. Bongiovi as the interim superintendent of schools, replacing Dr. Kurtis Kotes, who will become the superintendent of East Greenbush Central School District in Rensselaer County.
Bongiovi will serve as the interim superintendent during the 2025-26 school year, from July 1 until June 30, 2026, when a permanent candidate is anticipated to be chosen. An interim superintendent search began after the resignation of Dr. Kotes earlier this spring.
“I’m here to work in collaboration with the Board of Education and to work as a team with the administration, faculty and staff to continue to move Goshen forward in the positive direction that we are already on,” Bongiovi said at the June 25 Board meeting.
For 17 years, Bongiovi served in the Port Jervis City School District, beginning as a teacher for 12 years before ultimately moving up to becoming the superintendent from 2013 to 2017.
He then served as superintendent of the Highland Central School District for four years, retiring from the position in 2021. In August 2022, Bongiovi became interim superintendent of the Catskill Central School District, a position he held for one year.
Bongiovi has a Bachelor of Arts in History with a minor in Education and Political Science from LeMoyne College, and a Master of Arts in Liberal Studies from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. He also has a School Administrator and Supervisor Professional Diploma from Dowling College and a School District Administrator Certificate from East Stroudsburg University.
“My door is always open, so please come on in and meet me,” Bongiovi said.
More information on Goshen’s superintendent search will be available soon.
