On October 17, advanced art students in Chrissy Pahucki’s class at C. J. Hooker Middle School took a trip to Lake Minnewaska to paint en plein air — a French term meaning “in the open air.”
Plein air painting is the practice of creating artwork outdoors, directly from life, with the subject in full view. This approach allows artists to capture the fleeting effects of natural light and atmosphere, rather than relying on photographs or working from memory in a studio. The technique became especially popular among the Impressionists and continues to inspire artists today.
