Last week’s episode of Goshen’s Weekly Update with Mr. Bongiovi focused on teamwork and featured several of the district’s Odyssey of the Mind participants. That spirit of teamwork truly shined at this past weekend’s Odyssey of the Mind Competition at Orange-Ulster BOCES, where six teams represented Goshen Central School District.
Notably, Team Boroden and Hoffman (GIS), competing in Problem 5, Division 1, “Taller Tales of John Jivery,” took first place! Tears of joy were plentiful as they secured their spot at the State Finals in Syracuse.
Team Losee earned second place in Problem 5, Division 2, “Taller Tales of John Jivery,” and was selected for the state lottery.
Team Seligman competed in Problem 3, Division 2, Classics, “The Epic Quest.” Coached by former five-time world champion OMers and seniors Nathan Hulse and Carly Seligman, the team delivered an outstanding performance. Brooke Florio (9th grade), supervised by Heidi Seligman, Goshen Odyssey of the Mind Coach and Coordinator, earned second place with the highest long-term and style scores. For this problem, Team Seligman had to create an original epic poem featuring an epic challenge, a rescue, a hero and sidekick, and an original beast.
Carly Seligman and Nathan Hulse were also recognized for their eight years of participation in Odyssey of the Mind as graduating seniors.
Barbara Fixsen’s GIS team, competing in Problem 3, Division 1, Classics, “The Epic Quest,” placed third out of 11 teams and earned the highest long-term score in their division. Like their Division 2 counterparts, they created an epic poem complete with a challenge, rescue, hero and sidekick, and original beast.
Kaeli and Adam Van Eeuwen’s GIS team competed in Problem 4, Balsa Wood, “Life’s a Ball,” placing third while successfully holding an impressive amount of weight in their structure.
Congratulations to all of our Odyssey of the Mind participants for their creativity, dedication, and outstanding teamwork!
