Dr. Matthew T. Wentworth, principal of Goshen Intermediate School, recently traveled to Washington, D.C. to take part in the 2025 National Distinguished Principals program, hosted by the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP).

Dr. Wentworth was invited to represent New York state after being named the 2025 NAESP New York State Principal of the Year last May. The two-day event, held October 23-24 at The Willard InterContinental, celebrated 43 elementary and middle-level principals from across the country for their outstanding leadership and service to students. Honorees shared best practices, connected with education leaders, and celebrated the vital role of principals in student success.
Before joining Goshen in 2018 as principal of GIS, Dr. Wentworth served as assistant principal for the Anna S. Kuhl Elementary School (now East Main Elementary School) in the Port Jervis City School District for almost seven years. Prior to his time in administration, he was an elementary school teacher at Maple Hill Elementary School in the Enlarged City School District of Middletown.
