This week’s spotlight is on Goshen Intermediate School Classroom Aide Barbara Fixsen, who has been with the district for seven years.
Before her journey into education, Fixsen was a surgeon’s assistant in a medical office. Once she earned her Teaching Assistant Certificate, she joined the Goshen Central School District in 2016.
The classroom aide has lived in Hampton for 18 years, and said she was inspired to work in Goshen because her children attended school in the district.
“My goal is to make the intermediate school a place where students want to come and learn,” she said.
When asked what she is looking forward to most this year, Fixsen said, “I look forward to every new day!”
Outside work, Fixsen enjoys crafting and gardening. She also helps rehabilitate wildlife.
When it comes to food, she said eggplant parmesan is her favorite because she remembers helping her grandmother make it.
