Nuts & Bolts: Music Department and auditorium upgrades

The capital improvement project will expand and modernize the Music Department. Existing instructional space will be renovated and expanded into the existing boy’s team locker room, which will be relocated.

The Music Department upgrades include:

  • Renovated choral room
  • Renovated orchestra/band room
  • A new SGI music classroom
  • Three dedicated practice rooms with varying sizes
  • Two storage rooms
  • A new office, in addition to the existing office which is currently being shared by all four music teachers.

The capital improvement project will completely overhaul the auditorium by tackling seating, lighting and acoustics. New upholstered auditorium seating will be installed to replace the original seating that is almost 40 years old. An orchestra pit will be constructed with a stage filler to extend the thrust of the stage and provide a larger variety of options for performances.

New doors with acoustical gasketing will be installed as well as a new acoustic ceiling and wall panels to improve the sound quality of the space. The sound booth will be renovated, the AV system upgraded and new house lighting, rigging, controls and dimmer panels will improve theatric performances. Additionally, two air handling units servicing the auditorium space will be replaced and an operable partition wall will be removed to modify the floor pitch and improve site lines.

All of the renovations focus on providing the school district with a high-quality performance space that has exceptional flexibility with modern amenities and features.

The high school music program is popular among students and the community, and the auditorium is a highly utilized space for music courses, concerts, drama and musical productions, as well as educational instruction, honors and awards ceremonies, guest speakers and demonstrations, student and teacher group meetings, and community events.
