GHS Clubs & Activities

Academic League is a Quizbowl-type club where students answer trivia questions on a range of topics including math, science, literature, history, music, and sports. The team competes against other schools in Orange County.

Blanket Nation is a community service club that provides Blanket to Project Linus. Project Linus is a non-profit organization that distributes blankets to children 0 to 18 who are  seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new handmade blankets. We also donate dog/cat toys and bandanas to local humane societies and newborn knit caps to local NICU units.

Coding Club offers a space for students to explore hands-on computer science, work with library STEAM tools, and make a real-world impact. Beyond coding, members collaborate on community outreach initiatives to help inform the community about digital literacy and assist with basic technology help. All skill levels are welcome!

Crafted Kindness Club is a student-led service club focused on spreading kindness, positivity, and hope throughout the school and local community. Through jewelry-making, and fundraisers students will build connections and support charitable organizations.

Creative Writing Club offers a welcoming space for students to explore the fun and creative side of writing.  Novelists, poets, and comic writers alike will find a welcoming environment where peers support, encourage, and share ideas with one another.

Cultural Diversity Club provides opportunities for students to explore all the different cultures that our school community has to offer. Students engage in events throughout the school year that highlight the diversity in Goshen. Our goal is to make all students feel seen and accepted, no matter where they come from. We are one school with a multitude of cultures and we would love for you to be a part of our club!

Goshen Fantasy Sports Club is a fun group where members create and manage fantasy teams based on real athletes and sports. Members compete against each other by making strategic decisions, tracking player performance, and earning points based on real-life games. It’s a great way to build teamwork, learn about sports statistics, and enjoy friendly competition.  

The club currently offers fantasy football, basketball, and baseball, but is always willing to include more sports based on student interests.

Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) prepares students for success in business, leadership, and future careers through hands-on experiences, competitions, community service and professional development.  Members build valuable skills in communication, teamwork, entrepreneurship, and leadership while connecting classroom learning to real-world opportunities.

FBLA can strengthen your college application by demonstrating leadership, involvement, community service, and a commitment to developing real-world business and career skills.

Throughout the year, members help with school-wide recycling pickup and participate in hands-on Green Team projects and initiatives that promote environmental awareness and sustainability.

This year, the Green Team is excited to introduce a new initiative at Scotchtown Elementary School: helping transform the school garden into a beautiful, welcoming space.

The Green Team is a great opportunity for students who want to make a difference, work together, give back to our school community, and help create a greener future.

Interact Club is for students interested in community involvement through service projects, fundraisers, and volunteer opportunities. Members develop leadership skills, build meaningful connections, and make a positive impact within the Goshen community.

Intramural Sports is a brand new club designed to give students the opportunity to compete, have fun, and try a variety of sports in a relaxed and inclusive environment. Throughout the year, we will offer sports and activities such as cornhole, kickball, 3v3 basketball, golf, 7v7 football, and more!

***Because we are a new club, we are looking for students interested in becoming officers and helping shape the club. Whether you're a serious athlete or just looking to have fun and compete with friends, everyone is welcome!***

The club will run throughout the school year and will be divided into three seasons, with specific meeting and competition dates to be determined. Sign-up forms will be provided for students who want to participate in each activity.

Leo Club is a community service club that prides itself on leadership, experience, and opportunity. We implement our own events for the Goshen community that bring people together and provide them with fun, authentic experiences for all ages. We also raise awareness and fundraise for certain causes voted on by the club members. This club will help you earn the service hours required for the National Honor Society. 

The LGBTQ+ & Allies Club is a welcoming and inclusive space for high school students to connect, build friendships, learn about LGBTQ+ history and experiences, and promote respect and acceptance within the school community. The club provides opportunities for students to participate in discussions, educational activities, school initiatives, and events that encourage understanding, kindness, and appreciation for all individuals, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.

All students are welcome, whether they identify as LGBTQ+ or as an ally.

Math Team is a competitive team that focuses on and hones math problem-solving skills 

Competitions are once per month on Wednesdays for the months of October through February - one meet is home and the other 4 are away.  The top teams in the section will compete at the regional competition at Vassar College at the end of the season in March and the top individual students will compete at the state competition (location to be determined) in April. 

Each competition consists of questions at the Algebra 1, Geometry and Algebra 2 levels.

Chamber Strings is a small performing group of string instrumentalists. Commitment and experience is required to be a part of this group. This is a performance group.

There are two Jazz Bands at GHS, "The Little Big Band" and the award winning "GHS Stage Band." Students must be in the high school music department in order to be eligible to participate in these ensembles. Auditions are required. There is no guarantee of acceptance.

The Mariachi Club is a group of musicians that learn and perform traditional mariachi music. Commitment is required to be a part of this group. This is a performance group.

Small Band Ensembles are open to students who are members of the GHS Band program. There are many different types of ensembles available to join. These groups include: Flute Ensemble, Clarinet Ensemble, Saxophone Ensemble, Brass Ensemble, Jazz Combo, Dixieland Band, Percussion Ensemble, and Holiday Ensemble. The small ensembles perform throughout the year at various community events.

Rock Band is comprised of students who play guitar, keyboards, bass, drums, horns, or who sing. The group is divided into multiple "rock bands" that perform cover songs or original music written by the students. Rock bands can be seen performing at various places throughout the year.

Olympics of the Visual Arts is NYSATA’s (New York Sate Art Teacher Association) annual student creative problem-solving contest that brings together teams from across New York State to tackle creative design challenges. Student teams develop and present a long-term design solution, process portfolio, and on-the-spot challenge while connecting with other young artists and celebrating creativity.

We ask that student’s take their commitment seriously should they decide to join.

Expectations

Olympics of the Visual Arts is a commitment for the entire competition season.  A sense of commitment and responsibility are vital ingredients for personal and team success. Members are expected to:

• Attend all weekly meetings on time
• Attend the competition
• Stay Till You’re Done Night - We’ll have one longer work session before the competition to finish up projects.
  Date will be announced at least 1 month ahead of time, attendance is mandatory until the project is complete. 

Unexcused Absences and Competition Invitation
If you miss more than 25% of meetings due to  unexcused absences you will not be invited to come to the competition.
Participating in the OVA competition senior year will qualify you for a scholarship from the “Fine Art Club”

We start meeting once a week in October (when the contest categories are released) thru April.
Times: 2:17 - 3pm until we get going on projects 3 - 5 after projects have started.
We also take the students on an overnight trip to present their work at the Saratoga City Center, Saratoga Springs, NY on April 30.

Outdoor Club offers fun outdoor activites such as hiking, ice skating, and seasonal themed events (apple picking, corn mazes, snowtubing). Great way to try a variety of new things and and enjoy the outside!

Upcoming Field Trips and Events include Pure Terror 10/23 6-10 pm ;  Mount Beacon Hike 11/10 (rain date 11/13) ; Bear Mountain Ice Skating (12/11 rain date / too warm for ice delayed possible dates are 12/18, 1/8, 1/15) ; Bronx Zoo 4/23. More will be added throughout the year.

P, B, & J (The Positivity, Balance, and Joy Club) which is dedicated to boosting student morale, promoting healthy life balance, and spreading optimism throughout our school community with random acts of kindness.Through energetic morning and afternoon outreach programs, we brighten our classmates' days with uplifting giveaways, interactive activities, and positive vibes.

1. Flexible Participation: You don't have to attend every Friday meeting (though attendance is taken and encouraged regularly) to participate in our morning high-energy outreach events so you can jump in when your schedule allows!

2. Open to Everyone: Whether you want to help plan event logistics behind the scenes or hand out goodies at the front doors to start the day strong, there is a role for every personality type.
3. Low Stress, High Impact: True to our name, we keep meetings relaxing and fun and it’s the perfect way to unwind at the end of the week while making a tangible difference in your school's culture.

Pickleball Club is an opportunity for students and staff to learn and enjoy a growing sport in a fun, friendly, and non-competitive atmosphere.  Exhibition matches within the community are scheduled throughout the year. Often at the senior center, where we make it our goal to absolutely destroy… non-competitively, of course.

In Political Discussions Club, we discuss current events, local and national politics, and - most importantly - ideas and solutions. All are welcome.

The Robotics Club gives students the opportunity to explore robotics, engineering, programming, and problem-solving through hands-on projects and activities. Students work together to design, build, program, and troubleshoot robots while developing teamwork and technical skills.

No prior robotics or programming experience is required. Students of all experience levels are welcome to join, learn new skills, and work together on projects.

Science Olympiad is a STEM competition team where students work in groups to compete in events about biology, earth science, chemistry, physics, and engineering. The team travels to competitions to test their knowledge and devices against other schools in the region. Visit the Science Olympiad Website for more details!

Ski and Snowboard Club is exactly what is sounds like! We ski… we snowboard Mountain Creek Ski Resort five times and also take trips to Big Snow and Belleayre. Students who don’t know how to ski/board are totally welcome! They can learn and participate at their own pace. In addition to the dates listed, it is possible that we may go to other nearby ski resorts as well.

Sports Media Club is for students who are into videography, photography, design, interviewing, and anything else that goes along with communicating the efforts of our Goshen Sports Teams to the community. There is even an opportunity to run the JumboTron in the stadium.

You can participate as much or as little as you’d like by signing up for different events that you’re available for.

GHS Student Senate is the voice of our student body, providing a platform for students to advocate for change, lead meaningful initiatives, and shape the culture of our school community and beyond. Through collaboration and civic engagement, our Gladiator student leaders develop leadership skills while working alongside faculty and administration to create a positive and inclusive school experience for all. Senate officers meet weekly and the entire student senate meets monthly to discuss school wide events and initiates.

Yearbook gives students the opportunity to capture and tell the story of their school year. Students photograph, design, write, and create the pages that preserve the events, clubs, sports, activities, friendships, and everyday moments that make each year unique. Together, we create a time capsule of your experiences and memories the whole community enjoys.

Young Readers Outreach is a student-led program that works on service projects to help foster a love of reading for younger students in the community. Last year students worked with the transportation department to start a Books on Buses program to provide younger students with reading materials for their bus rides.

Youth in Government is a county wide organization in which students create policy and debate them with students from other schools. Additionally, students run for county/state positions against other schools in the county and get to shadow those positions for a day. The club also takes several field trips to Albany to see the workings of government at the state level.
