The C. J. Hooker Middle School announced its Students of the Month for the months of December 2022, January 2023 and February 2023. The student of the month is:
- Respectful – The student treats classmates, teachers and staff with respect by valuing each as an individual, respecting differences, and valuing the work that others do.
- Responsible – The student embraces the responsibility required to maintain progress in their schoolwork and other personal goals.
- Positive – The student contributes to the success of the school by promoting a positive school climate through their actions and words.
- Honest – The student communicates truthfully and in a respectful way with classmates, teachers, staff and refrains from dishonesty in completing academic work.
- Committed to success – The student strives for success in all they do and works to the best of their ability.
December 2022 Students of the Month

Grade 6
Maiya Nurse is an outstanding student. She is intelligent and inquisitive. Maiya is a mature and responsible student. She has a great personality and is a pleasure to have in class. It is a privilege to recognize Maiya as student of the month.
Katelynn Roman is a wonderful student! She works hard in all subjects! She comes to class every day prepared to do her work and try her best! Katelynn has a very positive attitude! She is very kind to everyone! It is a pleasure to nominate Katelynn as student of the month!
Nick Martin is an intelligent and motivated student. He puts forth his best effort on every assignment, often going above and beyond as he truly wants to learn. He is quick to offer support to peers and adults when needed. His work ethic, kindness, and quiet sense of humor make him a wonderful role model and a perfect candidate for student of the month.
Julian Puljos is a fantastic addition to the middle school. He has settled into 6th grade so well. Julian participates in all classes and completes his work. He will ask for help when he is unsure of himself and is often one of the first people to offer to help other students. He is always one of the first students in the classroom and is always ready to learn. Julian gets excited about learning new things and is very motivated to share his ideas about new topics. He is a joy to work with.
Isabella Ogden is a wonderful student who comes to class ready to learn. She is always willing to volunteer and participate in our discussions and activities with honesty and enthusiasm. She has been putting in great effort in her work and gives respect to everyone around her. It is a pleasure to nominate Isabella as student of the month!
Grade 7
Joseph Lorenc has a quiet and respectful demeanor. Joe always arrives to class on-time, in fact, he is usually one of the first! He is prepared with both his materials and completed assignments, ready for class to begin. He follows directions closely and pays attention, which shows his desire to be successful. Congratulations, Joe and keep up the good work!
Emeric Greico is a student who can consistently be counted on to do the right thing whether people are watching or not. He cares about his schoolwork, community, and peers. Emeric comes in each day prepared and ready to learn. Most importantly, he is kind, inclusive of all his classmates, and an all-around great person. We are so happy to have Emeric as part of our team. Congrats on being selected as December’s Student of the Month!
London Martel is a kind and friendly student. She displays a positive attitude and enjoys participating in class activities. London is a responsible student. She enjoys talking with her teachers and peers.
Ellis Rocchio is such an enthusiastic student with an amazing attitude. She is a dedicated and very talented member of our choruses and orchestra. Ellis always strives to do her best and is an absolute pleasure to teach. She is a great role model for others around her. Congratulations Ellis!
Grade 8
Allen Yi is an intelligent, determined, kind and considerate young man. Allen is conscientious and responsible and a positive influence. He is motivated to do his best and seeks help when needed. Allen is helpful, warm and focused and has the ability to express his thoughts and ideas eloquently through his writing. He is a good participant and an excellent addition to class discussions.
Gabriel Miller is a hard-working student who is committed to academic success. He is patient, thoughtful, honest, courteous, and kind. He treats his classmates and his teachers with respect, and puts forth his best effort each day. Congratulations, Gabriel.
Kyle Whitehead is a hardworking student who comes to class excited to learn. He always has the drive to try his best. Kyle is a kind student to his peers and teachers, and always comes in with a smile on his face. Keep up the good work Kyle!
Emily Schmidt is a wonderful student who has shown a natural talent for the tech area. She has been very helpful to her fellow students and sets a great example for others to follow. She is a pleasure to have in class and we love her effort. Congratulations Emily!
January 2023 Students of the Month

Grade 6
Melania Civitano is a model student, who always works hard and strives for her best. One quality that stands out with Melania is that she is always willing to help her peers and teachers! She is extremely kind, respectful, and friendly. Her hard work and dedication shines! We are so pleased to select Melania as student of the month!
Lucas O’Connell is a wonderful young adult. He is kind towards other students and always willing to help his peers. He has a great personality and is a pleasure to have in class. He is intelligent, responsible, and inquisitive. It is a privilege to recognize Lucas as student of the month.
Keira Lee is a friendly and inquisitive student. She is supportive and helpful and is often seen wearing a smile. Keira seems to enjoy learning. She asks good questions, works hard and seems genuinely appreciative of any effort made on her behalf or on behalf of her classmates. Congratulations Keira, on being chosen for Student of the Month.
Abigail Graham is a kind and friendly student. She is polite and respectful and always excited to learn. Abby displays a positive attitude and tries her best each day. Abby enjoys talking with her teachers and working in small groups with her peers.
Marissa Monteiro has such a lovely singing voice and always maintains a beautiful attitude. She continues to do her absolute best in class! Marissa is enthusiastic and continues to be an absolute pleasure to teach. Congratulations Marissa!
Grade 7
Riley Grob is a kind, caring and considerate young lady. She models a friendly and respectful demeanor, everyday, to both her friends and teachers. In marking periods one and two, Riley has also demonstrated maturity and responsibility by being prepared, completing her work and being ready to learn. Keep up the great work, Riley!
Amelia Arbizo exemplifies what it means to be an exceptional student. She consistently puts forth her best effort, holds herself to very high academic standards, and is always an engaged and active participant. Amelia’s behavior and work ethic make her a wonderful role model for her peers. Additionally, Amelia is friendly and kind to others. She is inclusive and respectful to all her classmates, and has an upbeat nature that makes her a pleasure to be around. Congratulations on this well-deserved recognition!
Micayla Figura deserves the recognition of being student of the month for January 2023. She is always friendly, kind and helpful to her teachers and peers. She enjoys participating in small group activities and is a good team member. Micayla is a role model for her peers and is well deserving of the Student of the Month award. Congratulations Micayla!
Alyvia Parkinson is always kind and helpful. She is engaged in all activities and is always on task. She is available to help other students as well as her teachers in a busy environment such as her technology class. Alyvia is well deserving of this recognition – congratulations!
Grade 8
Cailey Deacon is a hardworking, intelligent and motivated student. She is outgoing, perceptive, polite and provides insightful comments and good connections in class discussions. Cailey is a positive leader, who works well with others and is a kind and dependable friend. She is an excellent writer and is an excellent addition to her classes.
Paulette Nedorost-Mercado is a diligent, kind, and respectful student who is committed to academic success. Paulette comes to class prepared, participates in class discussions, and works well with her classmates. She takes pride in her work and always puts forth her best effort. Congratulations to Paulette.
Amelia Brown is a very hard worker. She loves to support her friends with their work as well. Amelia is an independent thinker who thinks outside the box. She is thoughtful, polite, and caring. A classroom full of Amelia would be a joy.
Delilah Burrow is an amazing student. She works hard from the moment she steps in the class. She shows a natural ability in areas of woodworking and has helped many other students with their projects. In our other classes, she is a great role model for others. She is engaged and confident, willing to participate and help out in any way she can. She is responsible and takes pride in what she does. Delilah is very deserving of this honor – congratulations!
February 2023 Students of the Month

Grade 6
Cora Massaro has been doing a great job all year! Cora comes to class prepared and ready to learn. Cora is kind to everyone. She is always willing to lend a helping hand, even to her teachers. Cora works hard and has a positive attitude! It is our pleasure to select Cora as student of the month!
Bella Cruz is an exceptional young adult. She is an extremely bright, kind, and responsible student. Bella is always kind and helpful when dealing with her peers. Her efforts in class make her a great role model for other students. It is a pleasure to recognize Bella as student of the month!
Marissa Monteiro is a very kind and hardworking student. She comes in every day with a smile, greeting and positive attitude. She is friendly and helpful to both teachers and peers. Marissa takes her schoolwork seriously. She goes above and beyond to learn and do the best that she can do. It is a pleasure to select Marissa as student of the month!
Giuliana Nunez deserves the recognition of being student of the month for February, 2023. Giuliana strives to do well in all of her classes by being prepared, participating, and studying for tests and quizzes. She is also busy with outside activities such as cheerleading. Above all, Giuliana is extremely kind to her peers and shows her kindness often. She includes everyone and is always willing to help. Giuliana is also polite and respectful to her teachers. Edwin Campos Luna has been very dedicated and shows a natural talent for technology. He has been working very hard on his projects and comes ready to learn. It’s a pleasure having him in class with his friendly and happy attitude. Congratulations to Edwin!
Grade 7
Clayton Scoville demonstrates a noticeable sense of maturity and responsibility. He is always prepared with his supplies out and assignments completed. Clayton is ready to learn, which is clear as he actively participates in class discussion. Clayton models a strong work ethnic and a friendly and respectful demeanor. Great work, Clayton!
Parker Olsen is a conscientious student who is consistent, calm, and mature. Parker has a quiet confidence that is evident in his academic performance as well as his interactions with peers. He holds himself to high standards and always shows excellent effort to produce quality work in his classes. Parker acts with integrity; showing respect and consideration for all in our school community. Congratulations Parker!
Camryn Joyce deserves the recognition of being student of the month for February, 2023. Camryn strives to do well in all of her classes by being prepared, participating, and studying for tests and quizzes. She is an excellent art student and enjoys drawing. Camryn is well-rounded and participates in extracurricular activities such as cheerleading. Camryn is also a good citizen. She is friendly and kind to others and is always polite to her teachers and peers. Camryn is a role model for other students and is well deserving of this award. Alexa Krabbe is a hard working clarinet and bass clarinet player that plays in Symphonic Band, Concert Band, and Jazz Band. Recently, Alexa was accepted on Bass Clarinet into the OCMEA Junior High All-County Band! She is always prepared and looking for new challenges and opportunities! She is a fantastic role model for her peers! Congratulations to Alexa!
Grade 8
Logan Gottlieb is a responsible and hardworking young man. He is personable, friendly and polite and gets along well with adults and his peers alike. He is a good participant in class demonstrating excellent understanding of content material, but also asking excellent questions for clarification or to get to a deeper meaning. He is inquisitive, attentive and determined to achieve his best.
Alex Moran is diligent, respectful, and committed to academic success. He is kind, honest, and treats his peers and teachers with respect. Alex comes to class each day with a positive attitude, actively participates in class discussions, and shows enthusiasm for learning new things. Congratulations to Alex!
Collin Fixsen is a hard working, kind young man. Collin is super friendly and always makes sure he says hello and goodbye to his teachers. Collin has a quick wit and a great sense of humor and is an asset to any classroom.
Larianna Bala is a wonderful musician and sets a great example for others to follow. She is a very dedicated student and continues to have a willingness to always do her very best in all areas of music and performances. Larianna is an absolute pleasure to teach.
