Independent Living Inc. of Middletown is offering a free virtual parent/guardian workshop, Understanding the IEP – Individualized Education Plan, via Zoom on two different dates:
- 6 p.m. March 16
- 10 a.m. March 28
This free training is part of the Independent Living Inc. Education Advocacy Transition workshops for students with disabilities of all ages and their parents/guardians.
This training will cover:
- Understanding each section within the IEP
- Learning the school’s obligation within the scope of an IEP
- Understanding terms and abbreviations often found in IEP
- Q&A
Independent Living’s training series is designed to help parents/guardians and students become a self-advocate by developing the necessary skills and knowledge to navigate special education. Bring your student’s IEP and we’ll go over, line by line, what’s there and what might need to be there.
The session will be presented by Education Advocates Diane Troeller and Lisa Cohen and is funded by the New York State Office for People with Developmental Disabilities Family Support Services.
