The C. J. Hooker Middle School Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) proudly welcomed 80 eighth graders into its chapter for the 2022-23 school year.
NJHS is the nation’s premier organization established to recognize outstanding middle school students. More than just an honor roll, NJHS serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, Character, and Citizenship. A candle is traditionally lit for each pillar as a symbol for new members as they begin their journey with the NJHS member and beyond.
As part of the induction process, students virtually pledged oath to the Middle School Chapter of NJHS: “I pledge to myself to uphold the high purposes of the National Junior Honor Society to which I have been selected: I will be true to the principles for which it stands; I will be loyal to my school; and I will maintain and encourage high standards of scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship.”
Today, it is estimated that more than one million students participate in National Honor Society chapters across all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, many U.S. Territories, and Canada. Each year, NJHS chapters throughout the country collectively dedicate countless hours to school and community service projects as well as fundraisers for local, national, and international charities. Instilling these values early in life helps to lay the groundwork for a lifetime of service.
Congratulations to this year’s inductees!
