The C. J. Hooker Middle School’s Odyssey of the Mind team was named World Champions in their division at the Odyssey of the Mind World Finals in Ames, Iowa.
The “Classics: The Musical Production” team competed against 44 teams from around the world, and placed first in each of the competition’s three categories:
- Longterm, where they performed an 8 minute skit in response to their given problem;
- Style, that highlights art, building, music and other talents demonstrated thematically; and
- Spontaneous, on-the-spot problem-solving.
The team members are Olivia Marku, Nathan Hulse, Madison Hunter, Grace McAndrews, Sion Siljkovic, Carly Seligman, and Ethan Tetzlaff. They are coached by Heidi Seligman and Brian Seligman.
The World Finals are a years-long accomplishment of the team, with six of its seven members taking first place at last year’s Virtual World Finals and second place in the 2020 Virtual World Final.
In addition, the Goshen Intermediate School’s “Odyssey ReOMvention”
team placed 12th of 35 teams in their division. The team members are Celia Arteaga, William Arteaga, Gabe Byers, Beatrix Collado, Ayooluwapo Folami, Penelope Losee and Jackson Thurtle. The team is coached by Rachel Losee.
