Hannah Barhorst won first place in the NYS Lions Club International Peace Poster contest.

Eighth grader Hannah Barhorst recently won first place in New York State for her entry in the Lion’s Club International Peace Poster contest.

Each year, students ages 11-12 from around the world  submit artwork that embodies the theme with an emphasis on peace. This year’s theme was “We are all Connected.”

Hannah won the school-level contest against her classmates at C. J. Hooker Middle School, then placed first at the regional competition and then advanced to the state competition. Her poster is now headed to Chicago to compete against the other winners from the 49 remaining states.

If chosen as the U. S. winner, Hannah will then compete against winners from other countries for the grand prize.

“Being New York state’s winner is a large accomplishment and we are so proud of Hannah,” said Art Teacher Amber Brown.
