Review current Section IX standards for fall sports season

Dear fall student-athletes and families,

The Goshen Central School District Athletics Department is excited for the fall 2021 interscholastic athletics season. Practices for junior varsity and varsity sports began on Monday, August 23, and will begin for modified sports on Wednesday, September 1. We are eagerly anticipating a fantastic season for our fall athletes and all of Gladiator Nation.

Please be aware that the district recently received the current Section IX standards established by the Section IX Protocol Committee. The following will be in effect for the fall 2021 athletics season:

  • Indoor sports of volleyball and girls swimming and diving (except while in the water) will require masks for players, coaches, spectators, site personnel and officials.
  • Cheerleading will require masks only when competition is held indoors.
  • Outdoor sports of football, cheerleading (when outdoors), soccer, cross country and tennis will not require masks for players, coaches, spectators, site personnel or officials.

It’s important to note that these guidelines may change based on any future guidance from local and state health officials, the New York State Department of Education, the New York State Public High School Athletics Association (NYSPHSAA) or the New York State Governor.

It is our hope that by following these guidelines as well as adhering to safety measures such as appropriate physical distancing, frequent hand washing and personal monitoring of COVID-19 symptoms, we will be able to enjoy our fall season while keeping our athletes, coaches and fans healthy and safe.
