View updated guidance regarding masks during summer programs

Dear Goshen Schools family,

The New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) recently released updated guidance regarding mask requirements for summer programs.

This new guidance gives school districts the option of following the state’s summer camp requirements, updated July 7, that encourage — but do not require — vaccinated students to wear masks while indoors at summer programs. Students who are not vaccinated are strongly encouraged to wear masks.

In addition:

  • Masks are optional for all individuals, no matter their vaccination status, while outdoors.
  • All students and staff must continue to wear masks when riding the school bus, no matter their vaccination status.
  • Vaccinated faculty and staff members are not required to wear a mask while indoors; however, unvaccinated employees must continue to do so.

The members of the Board of Education collaborated with the Superintendent of Schools regarding these updated guidelines for the Gladiator Gains summer program that begins tomorrow, July 13. Although we strongly encourage face coverings while participating in this program, the decision to wear a mask is optional for students.

Please note that we are still waiting for further information regarding the 2021-22 school year and will communicate that information as soon as possible.

If you have questions, please contact your building principal. I hope you are enjoying your summer and time well spent with family and friends.

Sincerely,

Dr. Kurtis Kotes
Superintendent of Schools
