Each year, the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Council of Orange County (ADAC) hosts its Annual Substance Abuse Poster and Essay contests.
Madison Hunter, sixth grader at C. J. Hooker Middle School, is the grand prize winner of the ADAC Annual Substance Abuse Poster Contest for the Grades 1-6 Category. The theme was “Keep Calm, Stay Strong, We Will Get Through This Together.”
A number of fifth graders at Goshen Intermediate School were also recognized in the poster contest in the Grades 4-6 Category. Riley Grob, Andrea Kelly and Adrian Flanigan all received Honorable Mention.
Areyanna McCarthy a junior at Goshen High School, is the Grand Prize Winner in the Grades 7-12 Category of the ADAC Annual Substance Abuse Essay Contest.
In addition, eighth grader Thomas Patzuk placed first in the essay contest, while seventh grader Angelina Celio placed second. Thomas donated his contest winnings to ADAC in support of their work to educate and prevent substance abuse and advocate for those affected by addiction.
Fifth grade students Brennen Banas and Olivia Gawronski placed second and third, respectively, in the Grades 4-6 Category. Amanda Rodriquez, Avery Ramsaier, Conlan Reilly and Gianna Pearlman all received Honorable Mention.
Approximately 900 posters and 50 essays were submitted from students across Orange County. You can view the virtual awards ceremony here.
