According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC) COVID-19 Data Tracker, the transmission rate for Orange County has dropped from “high” to “substantial.”
This newly designated lower rate of transmission changes the social distancing guidelines for local school districts. According to the New York State Department of Health, in counties with a substantial risk of transmission, “elementary, middle and high schools can maintain physical distancing of at least three feet between students in classrooms and cohorting is recommended when possible.”
Because the social distancing requirements have lessened from six feet to a three foot minimum, the C. J. Hooker Middle School will now have adequate space to accommodate its students for in-person learning four days a week, if they so choose. Although the Center for Disease Control recently released new guidelines regarding the use of masks, all students, employees, and visitors must continue to wear a mask in the Goshen Central School District. Please be reminded that the Goshen Central School District follows all guidelines and mandates set forth by the New York Department of Health and the Orange County Department of Health. The mandatory use of masks, district-wide, will be revisited if the New York Department of Health and the Orange County Department of Health revise or update their guidelines regarding the use of masks in public schools or generally.
We are pleased to announce that C. J. Hooker Middle School will be re-opening its doors to all students to attend four days per week, beginning Thursday, May 20. Students will attend on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays in-person. Students will remain on a remote schedule each Wednesday. Additionally, all polycarbonate barriers installed on desks will be removed prior to May 20, 2021. If you wish for your child to maintain the barrier, please contact your child’s school counselor by telephone or through email to make a request. We are all excited to welcome our students back to C.J. Hooker Middle School four days a week, and look forward to a strong and successful finish to the 2020-21 school year.
Thank you for your continued patience and support.
