View a letter from Athletic Director Dr. Matthew O’Brien

Greetings Gladiator Nation,

As we get set to return to athletics on Nov. 30, allow me to take a moment to notify you of several important items.

First and foremost, please rest assured that the latest guidelines from the Center for Disease Control (CDC), Orange County Department of Health (OCDOH) and the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) will be followed to ensure the safety of our athletes and coaches upon returning to athletics. There is no greater importance than the health and safety of our athletes and coaches. These safety precautions will include daily screening questions, temperature checks, regular disinfecting and sanitation of equipment, social distancing and mask wearing to the greatest extent practical, and more.

In the spirit of safety and precaution, Section IX will not be permitting spectators in attendance at athletic contests for the time being. Section IX will consider allowing spectators at a later date. In the meantime, Goshen will make preparations to livestream athletic events so that fans may watch from the comfort of their home or office.

As per the timelines and directives set forth by New York state, we will begin indoor track, swimming and diving, bowling, and alpine ski on November 30. New York schools are not permitted to compete in basketball, cheerleading and wrestling until further notice. Considered as high-risk, these sports will continue with their off-season workouts. A complete schedule of games can be found online at gcsny.org/athletics. Please note that these can change at any time.

There will be no school transportation for student-athletes with the exception of (to and from) away contests for the 2020-21 school year. Parents and families will be required to provide transportation for their athletes. Registration for athletics remains open and can be found on our school website at www.gcsny.org/athletics.

As circumstances change and new information is made available, I will notify you in a timely manner. Go Gladiators!

Sincerely,

Matt O’Brien, Ed. D.
