More than 100 books donated to honor memory of former librarian

Inside cover of bookSince the spring, more than 100 books were purchased and donated in memory of Dorothy Szarowski, former library media specialist at Scotchtown Avenue Elementary School.

Since Dorothy’s passing, dozens of people reached out to her colleagues, Aileen Behringer and Christine Banuls, to inquire how they could honor her memory. With the assistance of Sheri McNair, past-president of the School Library Media Specialists of Southeastern New York, the pair created an Amazon wish list for people to select and donate a book in Dorothy’s memory to the SAS library.

Dorothy was an artist and an avid gardener who enjoyed music and traveling. In that vein, many of the books on the wish list addressed those topics.

More than 100 books were donated in Dorothy’s memory. The books were processed (covered, cataloged) by Christine Banuls and Gladiator bookplates were created by Aileen Behringer. With the help of staff members, the books are now ready to be checked out at the Scotchtown Avenue Elementary School library.
