April 22: View a letter from the members of the Board of Education

Dear Goshen family,

We hope this letter finds you and your families safe and healthy during these unprecedented times. The Board of Education would like to thank our families, staff, teachers, administrators, and students for their flexibility and support as we adapt to these challenging circumstances.

We know everyone would like answers about when things can go back to “normal.” Questions about schools reopening, after-school activities, and graduation are just a few of our community’s concerns. Unfortunately, we just don’t have definitive answers at this time.

The Board of Education is in close contact with our administrators as they await word from the New York State Education Department and Governor Cuomo’s office regarding these rapidly changing issues. We will continue to communicate with the district as information is obtained.

We would like to give our students a special acknowledgement; their ability to adapt has been impressive and they should be proud of themselves. We understand that remote learning is new, different, and not the same as in-school learning. We also understand that there are a number of personal disappointments and frustrations due to the closings of schools. We want you to know that our hearts are with you and we are proud of your resilience and strength.

We also would like to thank the Superintendent, the Goshen Teacher Association, and the Goshen Administrators Association for their efforts in our transition to remote learning. Their
dedication has been instrumental during this process.

The Board of Education couldn’t be more proud of how our community has come together during this time of need. It’s truly inspirational to see families, friends, and strangers reaching out to each other. Please remember that our district is here to help in any way that we can.

Strength, resilience, compassion, and kindness are all traits of the members of our community. We will use our strength and resilience to get through the tough days. We will use our kindness and compassion to make our days brighter. By working together, we will make the best of this challenging situation.
