Special Education committee meetings to be held remotely during school closure

A letter from the Director of Pupil Personnel Services

According to the NYS Education Department, The Committee on Special Education (CSE), Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE) and the 504 Committees are not required to meet in person while schools are closed.

CSE/504/CPSE meetings will be held virtually through Google Meet from 4/14/20 through 5/1/20. Invitation letters have been mailed for meetings scheduled during this time period. May 1 was chosen so the district had enough time to plan accordingly. Should school be in session 4/15 – 5/1/20, meetings will still be held virtually. We will revisit how meetings will be held after 5/1/20 once additional guidance is given to districts by the New York State Education Department.

CSE Meetings: The special education case managers will be reaching out to parents to inquire whether or not parents would like to participate by phone or by video. A link to the meeting will be sent to parents if they wish to participate by video. A phone number and access code will be given to parents who wish to participate by phone.

504 Meetings: The school psychologists will be reaching out to parents to inquire whether or not parents would like to participate by phone or by video. A link to the meeting will be sent to parents if they wish to participate by video. A phone number and access code will be given to parents who wish to participate by phone.

CPSE Meetings: PPS Clerical staff will be reaching out to parents to inquire whether or not parents would like to participate by phone or by video. A link to the meeting will be sent to parents if they wish to participate by video. A phone number and access code will be given to parents who wish to participate by phone.

If you have received an invitation to a meeting, but have not received a follow up call or email from your child’s case manager or school psychologist for CSE & 504 meetings, please email the case manager or school psychologist.

Sincerely,

Heather C. Hendershot
