Two GHS seniors named finalists in the 2020 National Merit Scholarship Program

Congratulations to (L-R) Anya Malhotra and Sydney Jessup, 2020 National Merit Scholarship Program finalists.Goshen High School seniors Anya Malhotra and Sydney Jessup earned the distinguished status of finalists in the 2020 National Merit Scholarship Program.

Over 1.5 million juniors in about 21,000 high schools entered the 2020 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2018 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).  Among other requirements, semifinalists must score in the top 1% of the PSAT/NMSQT in their state.

Sydney and Anya qualified as finalists after submitting a scholarship application detailing their academic record, participation in high school and community activities, demonstrated leadership abilities, employment, and honors and awards received.

As finalists they will now compete for 7,600 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $31 million. This year’s winners will be announced April through July.

Established in 1955, the scholarship program is underwritten by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation in tandem with hundreds of businesses and higher education institutions that share NMSC’s goals of honoring scholastic champions and encouraging the pursuit of academic excellence.
