
Goshen’s Odyssey of the Mind teams had a stellar day at the Regional Competition at Orange-Ulster BOCES over the weekend, with five teams placing in their respective divisions.

The C. J. Hooker Middle School’s “The Effective Detective” team took first place and will advance to the state competition on April 4 at SUNY Binghamtom.
The team also won the coveted Ranatra Fusca Creativity Award for demonstrating outstanding creativity. This award embodies all that the Odyssey of the Mind program represents.

In addition, team member Carly Seligman and her sister, Jordan, each received an OMER’s Award in recognition of their winning design for the New York Odyssey pin design contest. OMER’s Award recognizes individuals who exhibit exceptional skill and talents.

Goshen High School’s “Networking” team: Damaris Rodriguez, Aliana Vanichpong-Barbosa, Hannah Fruhling, Jolina Dong, Mia Colangelo, Naima Puertas. Coached by Soraya Puertas and David Fruhling.
Goshen Intermediate School’s “Longshot Solution” team: Alexa Krabbe, Bridget Pettus, Marygrace Johnson, Harrison Ok, Nicholas Smykla, Presley Muller and Zara Singh. Coached by Shannon Johnson and Maggie Smykla.
Goshen Intermediate School’s “The Effective Detective” team (tied): Naomi Aclin, Ethan Batista, Ella Dennehy, Shaelyn Kirk, Olivia Marku, Emilio Vanichpong-Barbosa, Gwen Warland. Coached by Brooke Aclin and Suela Marku.
About Odyssey of the Mind
The Mid-Hudson Regional Odyssey of the Mind Competition (New York State Region 5) awards ceremony took place at the Orange-Ulster BOCES Emanuel Axelrod Education Center in Goshen. Over 500 local students, making up 72 teams from 12 schools in Orange and Dutchess Counties, challenged each other in the day-long competition.
