Second graders recently studied the works of Jan Brett, a children’s author and illustrator who has published more than 35 books since 1981. Her work includes Gingerbread Baby, The Umbrella, Hedgie Loves to Read and Mossy.

Students in Justine Diaz and Anne McEnery’s class read and discussed several Jan Brett books during their author study. As a culminating activity, students completed an art project based on Brett’s book, Mossy, and wrote friendly letters to the author.

The students were delighted to receive a care package filled with book introductions, pictures, and a personal letter from Mrs. Brett, who resides in Massachusetts.
