In the true spirit of giving, Goshen High School senior Marissa Lombardi recently put together and donated multiple food baskets, toiletry kits, children’s utensil sets and stuffed animals to the Youth Ending Hunger Club.

Marissa was tasked to execute a civic action project as part of her Participation in Government Class in order to make a positive impact in the world. She combined her love of food and sense of community when she chose to benefit the Youth Ending Hunger Club – an organization she has held near to her heart since the third grade.

Marissa collected monetary and food donations and purchased food so that she could assemble and distribute holiday food baskets. They contained a variety of food including canned ham, corn bread, stuffing, corn, green beans, gravy, rice, black beans, pasta, tomato sauce, macaroni and cheese, crackers, cereal, cocoa, tea, drink mixes and potatoes. In addition, she put together toiletry kits, kids utensil sets and stuffed animals. Her donations will benefit families in the local community for the holidays.

Marissa, who studies culinary arts at the Orange-Ulster BOCES CTEC Program and serves as captain of the cross country team, was inspired by her own experiences and lessons learned as a young student, and wishes to set a positive example for her younger classmates, as well, to help and  volunteer with the Youth Ending Hunger Club.
