Leo Club members from the C. J. Hooker Middle School visited the Hudson Valley Food Pantry on November 20 in honor of Hunger and Homeless Awareness Month.
Under the supervision of Diane Villegas, Leo Club advisor, and Lauren Levesque, social worker, the students helped sort and box food that will be distributed to people in need from all over the Hudson Valley. They were responsible for checking expiration dates, providing a line of defense for quality control, weighing the boxes and sorting in a manner that made sure families received an assortment of food in their packages.
The students worked diligently as they sorted through two giant pallets of food in preparation for the holiday season.
The Leo Club members who participated were Evelyn Aguilar, grade 7; Colby Bridges, grade 6; Yoelis DelaCruz, grade 8; Henry Dong, grade 7; Lucerena Jimenes Luna, grade 7; Mariana Jimenes Luna, grade 7; Michael Lombardi, grade 8; Nico Vanichpong-Barbosa, grade 7; Stefany Vidals Hernandez, grade 7.
