Leo Club members raise money for cancer awareness, prevention

Leo Club members Marissa Villamill, Leangie Jimenez, Lefa Brown, Sofia Puertas, Eesha Ramanathan, Ana Loter, Yoelis DeLaCruz, Advisor Diane Villegas, Naima Puertas, Michael Lombardi and Quentin Riley organized hat day at the middle school to raise money for the American Cancer Society.

Members of the C. J. Hooker Middle School Leo Club recently held a fundraiser to benefit the American Cancer Society.

The students organized a school-wide hat day that was held January 29. Employees and students were able to wear a hat to school by donating to the cause.

In all the students raised $263 for the American Cancer Society. The fundraiser was held just in time for World Cancer Day, an international day held each year on February 4 to increase cancer awareness and encourage its prevention, early detection and treatment. This year’s theme is “I am and I will.”
