Goshen girls basketball bests Burke

The Goshen Girls Basketball team (1-2) hosted Burke Catholic in “The Coliseum” this Monday in a rivalry as old as time. The Goshen Girls came in to this game seeking revenge after a heartbreaking loss last year to the Eagles and were able to keep that intensity throughout the game, maintaining a lead the whole game.

The Glads were once again led offensively by junior guard Erin Smith with 20 points and freshman Madison Clark with 17 points. This Goshen team showed its dominance on both sides of the ball, holding Burke to only 33 points through the man-to-man defense employed by coach Eric Harris. Asked about the team’s effort after the game Harris said, “The defensive effort was stellar, and if we always bring that energy and enthusiasm, we will be in every game.” The energy he says motivated his team to the win stems from the heartbreaking loss to the rivals last season. Stating how important the victory was he said, “Redemption after losing to them last year was sweet.” After this win the Goshen Girls team improves to 2-2 on the season and hopes to continue the winning this Friday versus Monticello at home.

In spite of loss, promising start for 2018-19 girls basketball season

A smooth layup from freshman Madison Clark for the first bucket of the season was the start to what looks to be a successful 2018-19 for the Glads. On Monday they lost a hard-fought defensive battle to the Warwick Wildcats 39-28. The offensive side of the ball was dominated by junior guard Erin Smith and freshman Madison Clark, with 17 and 8 points respectively.

This team is looking to bounce back off of a difficult 2017-18 season in which they fell to Saugerties in the section playoffs. They have high hopes for this year led by Erin Smith, the junior who led the team in scoring last year and hopes to replicate the astonishing offensive performances she had last year. Other key players on this team are senior Grace Clark and freshman Madison Clark, who contribute greatly to this young team both offensively and defensively. If the performances from the last game are any indication of this coming season, this young Glads team looks poised for a great season.
