Earlier today, a middle school student reported to school officials that another student displayed a weapon while trick-or-treating last night. This alleged incident did not occur on school property.
As a precaution, school administrators immediately contacted the Village of Goshen Police Department, as well as the students’ parents. The police department conducted a school-wide search with their canine unit to ensure that there were no weapons on school grounds. During the search, school administrators enacted a “hold in place” in order to keep students and staff away from the search area. No weapons were found and classes resumed as normal.
The police department is continuing to investigate the incident and has determined the weapon-in-question to be a BB gun. Although this incident did not occur at school, the district is committed to maintaining an environment of safety, security and transparency. We ask that you talk with your children about the inappropriateness of this incident as well as its consequences.
Thank you for your cooperation and your help in making our schools safe for everyone.
