Please note that this forum is for PARENTS ONLY.
According to the Partnership for Drug-Free Kids, heroin and other opioids are ravaging communities across America. Deaths from heroin increased 328% between 2010 and 2015, and drug deaths from fentanyl and other synthetic opioids are now seeing a sharp rise as well. More Americans die from drug overdoses than in car crashes – and 90 percent of addictions begin during the teen years.
So how can parents take an active role in prevention for their children?
On Monday, February 12, the Goshen Central School District will offer a parent forum on the subjects of opiods, heroin, vaping, THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol), and other drug trends that can indicate substance abuse among children. Parents will learn about awareness, prevention, and have an opportunity to ask questions.
The parent forum will be led by New York State Trooper Craig A. Vedder, School and Community Outreach Coordinator for Greene, Orange, Rockland, Sullivan and Ulster counties. The presentation will be held at 7 p.m. February 12 at the C. J. Hooker Middle School and is open to all district parents.
