Scotchtown Avenue Elementary School recently held its first annual Family Literacy Night for students and families.
Students and their families dressed as their favorite characters to enjoy the camping-themed reading and writing stations. Activities included hunting for words in a nature dig, searching for items on the I Spy board, writing postcards, engaging in a make-and-take puppet show, searching for sight words with flashlights, and building journals to maintain writing during the summer months.
Students also gathered around the campfire to hear a story with Library Media Specialist Aliya Schwerner in the and sing campfire songs with Music Teacher Sophie Levenberg!
In addition, students donated gently used books to support the Goshen Public Library.
The evening was hosted by Academic Intervention Services (AIS) Cheryl Fitzpatrick and Lisa Taravella, along with the Literacy Night Committee. The SAS PTO generously provided door prizes for the event.
