On November 9, more than 100 students and families enjoyed the first annual Family Math Night at Scotchtown Avenue.
For the past ten plus years, Family Math Night was held for students in grades 2-5; this year, Math Specialist Dana Richner and Academic Intervention Services Teacher Cheryl Fitzpatrick decided to host Scotchtown Avenue’s first night for students in grades K-2.
The theme was “Math Is My Superpower!” Students were encouraged to dress up as superheroes and there were more than 20 superhero themed math stations for families to enjoy. Students also took photos in front of a fun superhero selfie station!
Families donated canned food to the Youth Ending Hunger club to help them create Thanksgiving food baskets for the Goshen community. The SAS PTO sponsored the event and awarded more than 20 door prizes.
Many teachers and support staff helped make this event a success: Kindergarten Teacher Candice Shera; First Grade Teachers Laura Mullane, Jean Schaefer, Christina Jordan, Kerry Larney, Leighann Tully; Second Grade Teachers Cheryl Winship, Joanne Karchawer, Patricia Kuttler; AIS Teacher Lisa Taravella; Support Staff Marissa Lopez, Michele Galloway, Melissa Clark; Custodians Vasilis Tzouganatos and Michael Morrison; Interim Principal Henry Freedman and Interim Elementary Coordinator Robert Siracuse.
