Olivia Matteo, Rosie Fesko named Student-Athletes of the Week

This week’s Goshen Gladiator Student-Athletes of the Week are Varsity Volleyball players Senior Olivia Matteo and Junior Rosie Fesko. Both players helped lead the Lady Gladiators to a 10-8 record and a berth in the Section IX tournament.

Olivia Matteo has been playing competitive volleyball since 7th grade. She is a setter, which means her teammates depend on her to lay the ball up into position for a scoring spike. Coach Cruz stated that Olivia “is a very positive person who really understands the meaning of team and always is helpful and encouraging to others.” This season, Olivia had 31 aces, 214 assists, and 38 digs.

Olivia also has been playing club volleyball for the past five years. She is also a member of the Division Champion girls Golf team. Olivia has participated in Olympics for the Visual Arts for the past three years. Her plans for the future going to college and becoming a lawyer.

Rosie has been playing competitive volleyball since 7th grade. She is a right side hitter for the Lady Gladiators. Coach Cruz said that “Rosie is a positive force on the team; consistent in both game and personality. Her presence on the court gives the team a sense of comfort and confidence.” This season, Rosie had 37 aces, 72 kills, 21 blocks, 12 assists, and 83 digs.

She plays violin for the Goshen Chamber Orchestra. She has been a violinist for the past eight years. She was also a member of the JV softball team the past two seasons.
