Students at Scotchtown Avenue Elementary School recently learned about bus safety with a special presentation, “A Night at the School Bus Garage” starring Buster the Robot School Bus, and several superhero friends.

Buster is making his sixth appearance as Goshen’s bus safety spokesman. This time, Buster helps teach several of his superhero friends about school bus safety rules. Cat Woman found out about a bus’ danger zones; Spiderman, Batman and Ninja Turtle were taught how to safely cross the road; and Power Ranger, Joker and the Riddler learned to stay in their seat with their seatbelts buckled at all times.

Students were able to actively participate in the program by demonstrating the different rules to Buster and his friends. Presentations were also made for students in the Goshen Intermediate School and St. John’s School.

“A Night at the School Bus Garage” was written and performed by Goshen’s bus drivers, who worked together to decide what areas to cover during the presentation.

“Our drivers decided what should be discussed during the presentation based upon their experiences,” said Transportation Director Donna Weyant. “We wanted to touch upon the major rules – no eating or drinking on the bus, no bullying, stay in your seat, wear your seatbelt, cross the road safely and be aware of the danger zones – and demonstrate why each of these rules is important for safety.”

The cast and crew of “A Night at the School Bus Garage” were Ken Bowen, security guard; Linda Popowick as Cutie Patootie Bus; Laurie Laing as Lady Red Bus; Terri Vandenburg as Rookie Bus; Lori Turner as Shy Bus; Ann Arciero as Granny Anne Bus; John Sanok as Spiderman; Lisa Delgado as Ninja Turtle; Bill Penna as Batman; Diane Jacob as Riddler; Denise Valluzzi as Joker; Susan Tucker as Power Ranger; and Becky Aronsen as Cat Woman. Al Benson and Roger Krott were in charge of the camera; Cindy Amador, stage manager/lights and audio; Ormond Sarvis, stage and equipment manager; Denise Raffone as Buster the Bus’ voice; and Matt Petrakian as Buster the Bus’ technician.
