School Social Worker

615-6635

Scotchtown Avenue Elementary School

WHAT IS THE ROLE OF THE SOCIAL WORKER?

Your children attend school to learn; however, there may be times when circumstances interfere with normal academic progress. Such  circumstance may be school or home related, short or long term. No matter what the cause, we all need to work together to help your child feel as comfortable as possible and to provide the support that will help your child be most successful in school.

If your family experiences a crisis we can speak confidentially. I may be able to connect you with resources to assist your family. We can support your child here at school in many ways.

If you have any concerns, please contact either your child's teacher or myself. I am available to communicate sensitive information to staff as well as to meet with students, parents, and teachers as the need arises.

If you have a family member serving in the ARMED FORCES please let us know so that we can provide additional support to your child if needed.

PRESENTATIONS FOR PARENTS

Each school year the Pupil Personnel Services Department sponsors a variety of presentations for your information. Topics such as normal speech development, parenting styles, ADHD, fine motor development, and other areas of interest are presented free of charge. You will be informed about these presentations through flyers sent home with our students, notices in the newspaper, and on our district website.

PARENTING!

Parenting is the most important job you have and it isn't always easy. I will be scheduling some informal meetings to discuss questions and concerns about parenting. I am available by appointment to discuss any concern you may have, particularly as it relates to you child's success at school.

BANANA SPLITS

This is a peer support group for students who are experiencing the changes that occur with separation and divorce. Children living in foster care or with a relative other than a parent are also welcome. Meetings are held once each week for about ten weeks during the student's lunchtime. The students have an opportunity to share thoughts and feelings with friends who have similar concerns. Please call me with any questions and to request a registration form.
