Evaluating
Web Sites
You will soon be doing a research
project. Some of your research will be on the
Internet and will you want to get the
most from the sources you use.
Today we are going to look at a few
sites and you are to evaluate if
they will be useful and accurate for
your research. Are they easy to
navigate, to find the information you
need? Please keep in mind the
criteria we discussed about
evaluating a web site: the URL, Who,
What, When, and Why. Please
evaluate each site. Use the work
sheets provided to write your
comments.
Remember to think about the
following questions when you look at
each site:
What information can you gather from
just the URL? What
is the purpose of the web site?
Is the information accurate?
Is the information fact or opinion?
Who wrote these pages? (Single
author or organization) Is the
source credible?
When was it written or last updated? Do I need my information to be
current?
Why is this site posted? Will it
help me with my research? Were you
able to locate the information you
needed easily?
