We have reached the mid point of our season. Our overall team record stands at (7-2) and the OCIAA Division III league play stands at (4-0). Two big wins for Goshen came against Division II schools Minisink Valley (4-3) and Warwick (5-2).

On April 13, we suffered our first loss in three years to tough Division I team Monroe-Woodbury (5-2). A second loss was a hard fought match against Division I team Newburgh (4-3).

The younger players/newcomers have shown impressive improvement while the top returning players maintain consistency in their play. The team has acted as a team, showing support for one another and giving their all during each and every match.

Top players report:

  1. Doug Finkelstein (1st Singles 8-1)
  2. Jared Lisack (2nd Singles 8-1)
  3. Devin Valencia (3rd Singles 8-1)
  4. Max Mallow/Alex Valencia (1st Doubles 7-2)

The regular season play should be completed by May 10. Team goals are to win our division, see continued improvement in all players, build confidence in the younger players so they look forward to returning for next year’s season, and last, but not least, to have the top players feeling confident in their level of play to enter into tournament play in the Counties and Sectionals.

The boys varsity golf team, with recent wins over O'Neil and Burke high schools, secured second place in our conference. We are 4-2 in conference play while 6-4 overall with two weeks left in the season.

Our top scorers for the season are junior Frank Winski, freshman Shailen Patel, eighth grader Aaron Goyzueta, senior Will Sutton, sophomore Ryan Sarles and sophomore Jonathan Frederick.

The OCIAA Golf Championship will be played on May 17 and we hope to qualify players for the tournament. Players in this championship will try to qualify for the Sectional Championship Tournament being held on May 24 and May 26. The top nine players from that championship will qualify for States.
