We have 25 students trying out for the playing
team this season and only three students with match
experience. The top two payers returning to the team
are senior Will Sutton and junior Frankie Winski.
In our conference,
Cornwall will be the team to beat with other strong
contenders.
Our first match will be on Tuesday, April 6th with
Monticello High School at Stony Ford Golf Course. We
are looking forward to seeing how we develop this

Season preview: Goshen Girls Varsity Golf
By Coach Jim Polanis
The girls’ golf
team is looking forward to starting its season
against Middletown on April 7 at Stony Ford Golf
Club. The girls have been working very hard to
prepare for the season opener. Practice has been
held on the practice field and in the gym because
course conditions have not allowed us to get out
there and play.
We hope this year
proves to be very successful and that we continue
the winning ways of the past five years. We have a
strong team returning from last year and some
promising newcomers.
Senior Kelsey
Yates, Sarah Camposeo and Jessica Liccardi are the
top returners - all have played on the team since
their freshman year. Other returners include
Sophomore Kathleen Farrell, Mary Looram, and Nicole
Glade, Juniors Ceira Dawson, Chelsea Aiken and
Chelsea Cerillo.
The promising
newcomers include Juniors Vitoria Hale, Rebecca
Newman, and Amanda Perri, Sophomore Victoria Blaine,
and freshmen Julia Obregon, Sara Robinson.

finishing second at the Section IX Championships.
The team also qualified for the NYSPHSAA
Scholar-Athlete Team Award last season.
Our first match will be on April 9 vs. Warwick High
School at the C. J. Hooker Middle School tennis
courts, and we have another challenging schedule
against teams from all three divisions of the OCIAA
Boys Tennis.

Season preview: Boys Varsity Baseball
By Coach Matt Sass
The snow has melted, the birds are returning and the
Goshen High Schools Boys of Summer are back. On
March 8, the Varsity and JV baseball teams threw out
the first pitch of the spring. Enthusiasm and
expectation levels are high as we embark on the 2010
season.
This year's Varsity Baseball team will be anchored
by a talented bunch of seniors who are eager to make
a run to the Section IX title game. Co-captains
Andrew Crawford and Chris O’Connor will lead fellow
seniors Joe Sullivan, John Stephens, Joe Leddy, John
Jonas, Dan Mutone, Sean Robinson, Alex Musumeci,
Tommy Kohn and Chris Ouellette in their quest to go
out as champions.
The team is off to a good start, having had a very
competitive scrimmage at Middletown, and the season
opener is Monday, March 29 against Marlboro in the
Apple Valley Tournament. The team looks forward to
seeing all of its fans on Wednesday, April 7, for
the home opener versus Wallkill.

Season preview: Girls Varsity Softball
By Coach Tom Gilbert and Assistant Coach Mike
Kelly
Play ball! Spring is in the air so let the games
begin! The 2010 Goshen Lady Gladiator Softball team
is very eager to get the season going. The Lady
Gladiators will start the season off after a long
spring break on Wednesday, April 7, versus the
Cornwall Green Dragons. Cornwall ended Goshen’s
season in last years Section IX Class A semifinals,
so the girls are ready for some revenge.
Playing in the OCIAA Division III Class A Division
against teams: Cornwall, Port Jervis, and Monticello
and games against other Class AA & B schools will
definitely make for an exciting season.
The Varsity
Softball team returns 8 starters from last season’s
team. The team will be led by captain’s Marilyn
Borth, Rylie Carpenter, Nicole Ciampo, and Chelsey
Locatell.
The Lady Gladiators return home for there season
home opener on Friday, April 9, against the Port
Jervis Red Raiders at 4 p.m. Come on out and catch
the Lady Gladiators in action!

Season preview: Outdoor Track & Field
By Coaches Gus Lawson and Jim Steeves, and
Assistant Coaches J.B. Russo and Nick Pantaleone
As we turn toward the spring, the outdoor track and
field teams get ready for the 2010 season. The teams
are very eager to test out the newly refurbished
facility.
Both teams look to
continue a winning tradition that dates back more
than 30 years! They both finished runner up in
Division III last year with records of seven wins
and one loss. The girls finished in third place at
last year's Section IX championships with a school
record of 110 points and look to build on that
accomplishment this spring.
The girls team is led by a core of returning
student-athletes, including seniors Shanice
Saunders, Meghan Olin, Jenny Edmonson, Caroline
Bjorkman and Lauren Oettinger; juniors Brittany
Foote, Lucy Hinchliffe, Katelyn Scott, Ericka
Norton, Melissa Jordan, Kristina Davila, Esther
Laaninen, and Tina Wildrick; sophomores Alina Burger
and Jamie Lisack; and a host of promising freshmen
and newcomers.
Despite the departure of several key
student-athletes, the boys team returns with some
core leaders, including seniors Dylan Simonson,
Anthony Cuomo, Matt Buono, Sean Birdsall, Marc
Beliveau and James Schnikter; and juniors Steve Van
Doran, Jordan McWatt, Jeff Florkowski and Brandon
Reuter. The team has also picked up several
potential newcomers with talent.
The boys team has
sent a student-athlete to compete at the
intercollegiate level every year for the past 12
years and hopefully that tradition will continue
this year.
The teams open their seasons at home on April 7 at 4
p.m. Come on out and support Goshen track & field!
