Principals of
Engineering
Semester - 1/2 credit
This course introduces
students to the fields of engineering and
engineering technology. Students will explore
various technology systems and manufacturing
processes to learn how engineers use math, science
and technology in the problem-solving process.
Students will spend much of their class time
constructing and testing prototypes in this hands-on
course.
Students should be comfortable with arithmetic,
algebra and simple trigonometry. Competency with
higher-level math skills (functions, vectors) is not
required but is helpful. Topics for the course will
be chosen from the following areas: structural
(bridge design); statistics and strength of
materials; mechanical systems; biological/genetic
sequence coding; electrical/electronics; software
engineering.
