Materials needed                      Classroom rules                         Grading System

Welcome to the 8th grade.   Depending on your class, you will either receive the Pre-Algebra or the Algebra 1 textbook.  You may leave the book home as we have a classroom set if we need them.

Materials needed:

  • notebook – marble composition books seem to work best for students!
  • section of a binder or a math folder – you choose.
  • Math 8 - scientific calculator – I am most comfortable with Texas Instrument but others are okay.
  • Algebra 1 students will need a graphing calculator TI-83 or TI-84 (Texas Instrument) - we have a classroom set but students will want to have one at home to work with - wait until you see them on sale.
  • something to write with – pencils preferred.

In addition to the school-wide rules that are in place the following are our

Classroom rules:

  1. Bring appropriate materials to class.  This includes your notebook, homework and writing implement.
  2. When you arrive to class go to your seat and take out the materials you will need for class.
  3. When someone is speaking, teacher or student, please listen to what they are saying without interrupting.
  4. Stay in your seat unless you have been given permission to get up.
  5. Follow directions the first time that they are given.
  6. Keep the classroom neat and clean.

Grading system:

  • Regular Quizzes – based on 3-6 class lessons.  (25-50 points each.)
  • Mini Quizzes– based on one lesson.  (5-10 points.)

  • Review Quizzes - based on past several chapters.  (15-30 points each.)

  • Homework – homework will be assigned and checked almost everyday.  If you miss an assignment, you may make it up on the following day for  ½ credit.  (45-50 points per term.)
  • Notebook – you are required to keep a notebook that will be checked at the end of each term.  (25-30 points.)

Any additional graded material will be well announced.  Check the side blackboard for homework, quiz dates and general due dates.  Additionally, the homework hotline number is 615-6390
