Bienvenidos a la clase de Español

      Spanish – 8^th grade                                                                     Goshen, NY

 

      Welcome to 8^th grade Spanish!  This class is a High School requirement, and you are able to earn one foreign language credit when you pass the New York State Second Language Proficiency Exam in June.  All students must take and pass this exam in order to graduate from High School in New York State.

 

      EXPECTATIONS:

·        Follow directions the first time 

·        Come to class prepared. (pen/pencil, notebook, paper and completed homework)

·        Be on time and be ready to start class by the bell

 

      GRADING:

  30% - Homework/ Classwork

            * The study of a foreign language requires daily practice and reinforcement; therefore, students 

               will receive written homework almost daily.  Homework is due at the beginning of the class. 

               Homework will be accepted after the due date for ½ credit.  If you are absent, you are   

               responsible for completing the missing assignments.

  25% - Tests/ Projects

            * Tests will cover the vocabulary and grammar concepts of an entire chapter. Tests will be       

               announced.  If you are unhappy with the grade, you may retake a test and receive the average 

               of the two grades.

  25% - Quizzes

            * Quizzes will cover specific vocabulary or grammar concepts from the chapter.  Quizzes will

                be announced.  If you are unhappy with the grade, you may retake the quiz and receive the

               average of the two grades.

  20% - Writing/ Participation

            * There will be a writing assignment for each chapter that will be done in journals.

            * Speaking in the target language is an essential part of language acquisition. You will

               receive a grade based on class participation and the use of Spanish during class activities.

 

      MATERIALS:

·        Pen or pencil

·        Loose-leaf paper

·        3-Ring binder or a section in a binder

·        Chapter Vocabulary Sheets (to be handed out in class)

 

      EXTRA HELP:

I am available for extra help before school, after school or during lunch.  Please feel free to see me during any of these times if you were absent, if you want to study or if you don’t understand the homework.
