Information:
Mandarin
Chinese is offered at C.J. Hooker Middle School via
video conference through Orange-Ulster BOCES. The instructors
are Mr. O'Neill and Ms. Cheng who both teach from the
Harriman Learning Center. Mr. O'Neill teaches
6th grade Chinese from 2:15-3:00pm and Ms. Cheng
will be teaching 7th grade Chinese 1st period
(7:40-8:23am).
A note
from Mr. Lewis:
Welcome
back to school! This year promises to be fun
and exciting, as we will have two Mandarin Chinese
classes in Goshen. The 7th grade students will
continue their studies from last year and we have a
new group of 6th grade students joining us.
It is essential that students attend class regularly
and arrive on time. The fact that this is a distance
learning class makes it very difficult (or in some
cases, impossible) for students to make up missed
work. Please make every attempt to schedule
appointments around Mandarin Chinese class.
For 7th grade students, please arrive to school ON
TIME. Entering class late will be a major
distraction to your classmates and the instructor.
If lateness becomes a problem, after school
detentions will be issued.
Students should
expect 15-30 minutes of written homework
per evening. In addition, students should be
studying (pronunciation, characters, pinyin, etc...)
and using moodle (more info coming soon) for an
additional 15-30 minutes daily. Please keep in mind that this
program is the equivalent of an honors level class
that requires increased time and commitment.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding
homework, they should be directed to Mr. Lewis, Mr. O'Neill,
or Ms. Cheng.
IF YOU HAVE ANY
QUESTIONS REGARDING REPORT CARD GRADES, PLEASE
DIRECT THEM TO MR. O'NEILL (6th GRADE) OR MS. CHENG
(7th GRADE). E-MAIL ADDRESSES AND PHONE
NUMBERS ARE POSTED AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS PAGE.
PLEASE
