Bienvenidos
Dear
Parents/Guardians:
My name
is Gabriela Ackert. I am the seventh grade Spanish teacher
and I would like to take this opportunity to introduce
myself and to welcome all of you to the start of this new
academic year.
I am from
Ecuador, South America. I grew up in a small city called
Ambato. I lived and studied in Ecuador for twenty six years.
I attained an Associates degree in English as a Second
Language (E.S.L) from the Universidad Tecnica de Ambato. I
taught English to Spanish speaking students for seven years
at the elementary and middle school levels.
In 2001 I
decided to come to the United States to continue my
education and to improve my English. In 2006 I attained my
Bachelors degree in Liberal Arts, Interdisciplinary studies
with a concentration in Spanish and Latin American Culture
from the Empire State College. I am currently enrolled in
the Master of Arts in Teaching program at the aforementioned
university.
I find
middle school students exceptional and fun to work with.
Middle school students need good role models, leadership,
and encouragement to succeed in school. It is also my
personal belief that teachers at the middle school level are
able to provide the encouragement and help needed for our
students to be successful at learning and socializing in a
our global and diverse community. I am passionate about
teaching and, most importantly, I want to make a difference
in our students’ lives. Therefore, I am excited and happy to
be part of the C. J. Hooker Middle School.
Communication between parents, students and teachers is very
important in order to help our students succeed. Therefore,
I would like to encourage parents/guardians to write me a
note, or call me at the school at 294-2471 or e-mail me at
gackert@gcsny.org
with any questions or concerns you may have.
Sincerely,
Gabriela
Ackert
